Pilot Dual Credit Program with North Island College Begins in Feb, 2007

  • The original pilot for Tourism Education in BC Secondary Schools (1981)
  • The BC pilot for the Canadian Academy Of Travel & Tourism (1995)
  • Entered our 3rd decade of operation (February, 2001)

Canadian Academy of Travel & Tourism

Across Canada secondary school students will graduate interested in, and able to pursue, a career in tourism. In order to achieve this, the B.C. Academy model will enhance skills and attitudes provided by existing Tourism career programs.

  • Three year program (Grades 10,11, and 12)
  • Can be completed in less time

Academy Gold is achieved by completing:

  • Tourism 11
  • Tourism 12
  • Any second language to the Intro/Beginning level
  • Work Experience 12a & 12b
    (Prospective Gold graduates can apply to the Dual Credit Stream)

All Academy Gold graduates receive national certification, entry into the National Tourism Employers Database and direct entry into BC College Tourism Diploma Program as part of the BC Tourism Learning System

Academy Silver / BC Full Program is achieved by completing:

  • Tourism 11
  • Tourism 12
  • Work Experience 12a

All Academy Silver graduates receive national certification and direct entry into BC College Tourism Diploma Program as part of the BC Tourism Learning System

The Tourism Training Option is achieved by completing:

  • Intro Tourism or Tourism 11
  • Tourism 12
  • Hospitality 12
