Tourism Career Programs

Highland is a Full Program Tourism school. A designation which provides eligible graduates with a broad range of opportunities in pursuing the more than 400 recognized tourism careers.

The emphasis of the full Tourism Programs is on applying the attitudes and skills needed to work effectively with people, plus an introduction to marketing and entrepreneurship. Enrollment in this program guarantees interested students entrance to the new Canadian Academy of Travel and Tourism.


Full Program

Option 1:

  • Tourism 11
  • Tourism 12
  • Work Experience 12 (4 credits, including part-time employment)

Completion of this program package results in (national) Academy Of Travel & Tourism Silver Certification. Qualified Silver graduates may be eligible for direct entry to College Tourism programs in BC and elsewhere in Canada... and qualify for the Dual Credit Program!

Option 2:

  • Tourism 11
  • Tourism 12
  • Work Experience 12 (8 credits, including part-time employment)
    (plus 2nd language to 'Introductory level')

Completion of this program results in (national) Academy of Travel & Tourism Gold Certification. Qualified Gold graduates may be eligible for direct entry to College Tourism programs in BC and elsewhere in Canada...and qualify for the Dual Credit Program!


All of the options below may also lead to the new Dual Credit program!

Additional Options (by interest):

Hospitality Option:

The Hospitality program can lead to direct job entry into the largest single employment field for people under 24 -- or to further study at a college in areas such as Hotel-Restaurant Administration, Cook Training and Tourism Studies.

Management Option:

This program will usually lead to College or University programs in Tourism Management, Resort Management, International Trade or Travel Industry training schools. It also provides an extended exposure to marketing and entrepreneurship and the creation of new businesses.

Languages Option:

Students with second language training have obvious advantages in gaining access to jobs and careers in the Travel and Tourism industry. The Languages program will usually lead to College or University programs in Tourism Management, International Trade or Travel Industry training schools.

Recreation Option:

The Recreation-Tourism program emphasizes the link between Recreation and the Tourism industry. The program is primarily designed for those students wishing to pursue Recreation and/or Tourism programs at the College level or for job entry after graduation.
