Create a video game!

- A Project for Humanities 8.

Here's a project that my students completed while studying about Middle Ages Civilization. This project was created as a Webquest and it included use of the Internet, C-map, Publisher, Word, and an online game generator called "Fling the Teacher".All of the rubrics, instructions and assessments can be found in the webquest .

These are the final games:

CHINA INDIA ISLAM JAPAN AFRICA

These are some of their final C- maps:

JAPAN CHINA ISLAM INDIA AFRICA
(clicking on the c-maps will enlarge them)

These are a couple of the brochures they made:

CHINESE ART AND ARCHITECTURE
INDIAN HISTORY AND LANGUAGE
ISLAMIC ART AND ARCHITECTURE

This is the process that they went through:

STEP 1: Students were directed to the webquest and they started by learning about civilization. They made notes in Word and created a C-map to show their understanding. After they discussed with others, they added to their C-map.

STEP 2: Students were broken into groups of 5 or so and were given one of the following civilizations: Islam, India, China, Japan, Africa. Each student chose a role and followed the tasks to become an expert in their field. Students added this information to their C-map.

STEP 3: Once students were an expert, they created a tourist brochure using Publisher and they prepared a presentation to teach their group about their chosen field.

STEP 4: Once all students presented, each student added what they learned to their C-map.

STEP 5: Next, the group got together and crafted 30 questions that showed their accumulated understanding of their civilization. They compiled this information into the "Fling the Teacher" generator and created a game for the class.

STEP 6: The class played the different games to learn about the other civilizations.
