Report Cards Sent Home

The second formal report marks the time of year when we start programming for next year and focusing on what needs to be done to successfully complete this year.

This report has a slightly different format, but provides the same information as previous reports. There is the summary page containing letter grades and work habit marks followed by the comment pages which tell what learning outcomes, or topics, were the priority for the term and gives an indication of how well the student did with each one. Please excuse the typo on some of the summary pages. It says "schoiol" instead of school. There is an indication of special recognition roles on the summary page; however, the more accurate one is at the end of the comments section. Hopefully we have gotten the kinks out this time so the final report will be even better. If you have feedback, we would love to hear it.

Fifth Disease is a concern in the community right now and is in our school. It is a very common disease that is normally not a problem for people; however, it is a concern for pregnant women and those with weak immune systems. Those people should check with their doctors. Fifth disease does not show symptoms until people are no longer contagious so you cannot know who may be passing it along. Preventative strategies include regular washing of hands, and not sharing food or drinks. For more information you can contact the Vancouver Island Health Authority, your doctor, or check for information on the Internet. The Health Nurse told me most adults have developed immunity after having it some time in the past.

Yearbooks will be going on sale shortly. The cost for our hard cover yearbook is $25. We only print the number ordered so all orders have to be prepaid. If students don't order a yearbook before the deadline of May 15 they will not get one. Everyone should have a yearbook so they can look back over the years.

We will remind you again about final exams. June 16 and 17 French 8 is written in class. June 18 - English 7 and 8 in the afternoon, June 21 - SS 8 and Grade 7 assembly in the afternoon, June 22 - Science 7 and Grade 8 assembly in the afternoon, June 23 - Math 7 and 8 in the morning and school wide awards assembly on the afternoon. June 24, 25, and 28 - make-up exams for students who were ill and assignment completion time. June 29th - reports issued.

School Achievement Indicators Program - 11 of our Grade 8's have been randomly selected to participate in this national assessment of how students are doing in science. This program is organized by all of the Ministries of Education in all of the Canadian provinces and territories. It is not meant as a student, school, or district assessment so records are not kept to identify individuals. Instead it is meant to give an indication of how science programs are doing in our country. The selected students and their parents will receive more information over the next two weeks. The exam will be written April 19th.

Growth Plan News
Our goals are to improve student performance in writing and student performance in mathematics. Students are given practice tests and review sessions to ensure they are as ready as they can be, The next school wide write is scheduled for the end of May.

THE NEXT C.M.S. P.A.C. MEETING IS IN THE C.M.S. LIBRARY AT 7PM ON APRIL 21ST. WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE.
