The Celestine ProphecyI wonder if the author of The Celestine Prophecy, James Redfield, ever visited Peru or even read about it before he wrote his book. The "hero" drives from Lima to Iquitos by car, just like that. But every Peruvian knows Iquitos is an isolated jungle town and can only be reached by air, or by boat -- from Brazil!. The repressive way the police and military act to prevent the manuscript to be discovered, makes you think of a country like Chile during the Pinochet regime. Last, but certainly not least, I believe Redfield confuses the Mayan Indians from Central America with the Inca. I know Redfield didn't intent to write a travel book, but a little more accuracy would have improved the impact and credibility of his book. |
