Pachacamac, 30 km south of Lima, is an ancient pre-inca city. It used to be a holy
city, respected
by all pre-Inca tribes including the Chimú. When the Inca's conquered Peru, they took
over
Pachacamac and built some of their own temples on top of it. But even the Inca respected
the ceremonial importance of the city and allowed worshipping of the site. Still many
ancient
and Inca structures are left.
