Ilo

Ilo is a small city but an important port southwest of Moquegua. In 1992, Peru granted Bolivia (which is not connected to the sea) the right to use the port free of duty, making it the only seaport of Bolivia. Of course the city stays Peruvian, and the port is also used for import and export for Peru.

Ilo is known as la ciudad dormido, the sleeping city, because of its dreamlike and pleasant atmosphere. The surrounding desert and coastline offer many scenic places.
