Huáncayo
Huáncayo is the capital of the
department Junín in the central Andes. It is situated at an altitude of 3260 m and has
257,000 inhabitants. Huáncayo lies in the middle of the Mataro valley, one of the most
fertile valleys in the Sierra and very important as a rural area.



Pachamanca is a typical food, with marinated meat, vegetables,
potatoes and spices, which is prepared in a hole in the ground
