This is an excellent WebQuest in which students take on the role of an entomologist discovering insects, their life cycle and how they are important in our world. This is developed by Kari Nye, Jane Hunter and Marty McCririck.

 

Whales-An Integrated Unit for Grade 3

This is a complete unit on whales designed by Susan Jackson. It includes lesson for on and off of the computers, a webquest, a critical thinking lesson and a complete list of books, vidoes and web sites you can use.

Grade 4 Lesson Plans:

The Digestive System

Here is a lesson plan on how to teach the digestive system to grade 4 students including worksheets and Internet links to find the answers. This lesson also has an online quiz that is partially marked by the computers.

This WebQuest, designed by Jan Fox and Barb Belcher, gives students the role of saving the frogs of Vancouver Island. Students learn about how animals adapt to their environment and how environmental changes affect a population.

Grade 5 Lesson Plans:

A Natural Resource Unit

This lesson plan has been developed by Kelly Egilisson, Joan Pearce and Kara Turner. It covers all the learning outcomes of the grade 5 natural resources unit as well as most of the grade 5 level I.T. learning outcomes. It has been extensively tested.

 

The Respiratory and Circulatory Systems

These are lessons designed to help you use the Internet to cover all the IRPs for Grade 5 Science-The Respiratory and Circulatory Systems. It includes worksheets with answers and links to sites for students including a great link to a site on comparing animal and human respiratory systems.

This site has lessons about the first Thanksgiving and about the Canadian Thanksgiving. Includes worksheets and answers and easy links page for the students to use.

 

The Cariboo Gold Rush Adventure

This is a short lesson to be used to introduce the Gold Rush or review the Gold Rush towns and people. Students fill out a worksheet as they go through the Cariboo Gold Rush Adventure game online.

 

Immigration

This site contains links with loads of information about immigration in Canada, past and present. Also found here is a unit for grade 5 teachers studying immigration that was developed and tested by Liska Mahrt, Joan Pearce and Kara Turner.

States of Matter Lesson

This is a lesson for Grade 6 Chemistry in which students learn about the different states of matter and about physical changes in matter. It includes teacher and student instructions and worksheets developed by Jill Olsson and Carol Walters.

 

Where in the World, eh?

This is a WebQuest developed by Robert Bingham to lead grade 6 students through a unit on countries around the world. This complete set of lessons includes mapping, creating graphs and students use the United Nations Human Development Resources to look at living conditions around the world.

 

Your Trip to Peru

This WebQuest leads students through designing a brochure to advertise a trip to Peru. Students are required to create a 10 day to 2 week itinerary for the trip among other requirements. This was designed by Lynn Swift and Kara Turner.

 

Planet Disney

In this WebQuest students are choosing a planet for Wlat Disney to build an amusement park on. Students study the human and technological requirments of space travel and compare comditions on planets to those on Earth. Designed by Sherri Watson.

 

The Great Canadian Space Place

This WebQuest is the same as the Planet Disney one above but now covers the Learning Outcomes concerning Canada's contribution to space exploration and the contribution of space exploration to our everyday lives.

 

Travel Japan

This WebQuest leads students through designing a brochure to advertise a trip to Japan. Students are required to create a 5 day to 1 week itinerary for the trip among other requirements.

Grade 7 Lesson Plans:

Ancient Civilizations

This is a WebQuest lesson designed by J. Finning and R. Heta from Lake Trail. In this complete lesson students travel back in time to study the civilizations of India, Mesopotamia or China and create PowerPoint presentations for their class.

 

The 5 Themes of Geography

This is a complete Social Studies Unit designed by Tony Cocking and Dave Pye. In this WebQuest lesson students will use the 5 themes of geography to guide them in creating a PowerPoint presentation to promote Canada to an audience in Australia.

 

Putting the Point into Ancient Egypt

This is a WebQuest complete with evaluation and resource links for which the class teach each other about different aspects of Ancient Egypt using PowerPoint.

 

Star Broker

This is an Astronomy WebQuest with some additional web site resources and an added sheet for recording information. Students are Star Brokers trying to sell a constellation.

Grade 8 Lesson Plans:

Lessons From the World's Religions:
A Narrative WebQuest

This lesson integrates English and Social Studies. Students research a world religion of their choice and read narratives about it. They then write their own narrative promoting and illustrating the beliefs and practices of their chosen religion. Written by T. Jerome, this webquest includes worksheets, marking criteria and a full list of resources.

 

Des Vacances en Francais

This WebQuest guides students through a study of Francophone cultures around the world. Created by Christophe Abele, Connie Shaller, Suzanne Rea, Jack Sapurnoff and Kara Turner, it includes links to all the sites needed and an evaluation rubric.

Grade 9 Lesson Plans:

Science -Astonomy Unit

This is a complete astronomy unit designed by Comox Valley Middle School teachers. In this WebQuest students research the solar system to design a recreation activity and then create a web page to advertise it. All instructions, worksheets and marking criteria are included.

 

English -The Elements of Power

This is a thematic short story unit for students grades 9-12 English/Language Arts designed by Lisa Chase and Jodie Zuccato. In this complete unit students read poetry and short stories to explore the power of technology, peers, war, tradition, knowledge and the power of one.

 

The Amazing Canadian Time Machine.

This WebQuest is designed by Jan Ference and Pheobie Nelson for classes studying the Aboriginal People of early Canada. Students create a brochure to advertise their time machine and show what they have learned in their travels.
