Introduction

You are visiting your grandparents for the holiday and it has been rainy and miserable outside. You have decided to explore the attic. Up the stairs you creak. In the dark you stumble upon a trunk. You open it up and find old fashioned pictures. You can see that the pictures look like grandpa. You go to ask him what they are all about. You showed grandpa the pictures. "Those are pictures of me at work back in the olden days," he said.

Conclusion

Wow! Now you know how hard your Grandpa had to work doing everything by hand. It's amazing how changes in technology have made things easier for us. Can you think of ways that technology has made things easier for you around your home? Can you name some ways that communities in British Columbia have changed because of technology? Are all of these changes good?

Teachers

This lesson would be part of your unit about the history of BC Communities.

In this lesson, we have instructed students to look at the pictures for the four types of resources (mining, farming, fishing and logging) you may choose to have each pair research and present only one of the four and then present their slide show to the class.

Before students go into the computer lab, distribute the following research sheet:

Click here to get the worksheet in Microsoft Word.

Click here to get the worksheet in Adobe Acrobat.

Click here if you would like to see instructions for using Kid Pix and for creating Slide Shows (Adobe Acrobat).
