MAPPING THE PROVINCES, TERRITORIES AND CAPITALS OF CANADA

In this lesson students will write the names of the provinces and territories of Canada on a map along with their capital cities. They will also identify and label major land forms and bodies of water on a map of British Columbia using Online Encarta as a guide.

It is expected that students will:

• use simple maps to interpret and present information
• locate major landforms and bodies of water in BC and Canada
• identify characteristics of the provinces and territories of Canada

Photocopy the worksheet and the maps for your students.

2. Students use a computer and follow the instructions on the worksheet to fill in the information on their maps of Canada and British Columbia.

EXTENSIONS:

-Students could fill a map out on the computer in Paintbrush or Kid Pix and navigate between Encarta and the paint program.

-Have students colour the map.
