Happy New Year!! I would like to take this opportunity to either welcome you to our
Lake Trail Middle School Community, or welcome you back. The excitement in the
building this week has been invigorating. As teachers we spend much of the summer
working to prepare for our students in September and this week often goes by in a blur,
as does September. There is no doubting that this will be an exciting year.
If I haven't met you yet, please find the time to come by the school to say 'hi'. For those
that do not know me, I have been a teacher in our district since moving here with my
family in 1998 and served as Vice Principal of Lake Trail from 2003-2006. I am
passionate about public education, believe that we are all learners, and strive every day
to improve the learning for every child to be successful in our dynamic world. You can
find my blog by clicking here.
As many of you are aware, there will be many changes this year as we work with a
redesigned curriculum and changes to our reporting practices. We will use this
newsletter and other media to attempt to keep you informed of what we are doing.
However, please do not just read these messages. It is very important that you
participate in your child's education and there are many ways to do this. Attending PAC
(Parent Advisory Council) meetings - the next one in on Monday, September 19th at
7:00 in our Library) and participating with the PAC can be very rewarding, informative,
and valuable. Our school web-site (thank you to our Vice Principal, Wayne Kuhnert, for
his work keeping this site updated and relevant) is a wealth of information about our
school and about your child's classes. Coming to the school to watch activities, to talk
with staff, or to volunteer your time and expertise are also rich ways to be involved in
your child's education and our community.
Needless to say, we are very much looking forward to this school year and invite you to
please contact us if you have any questions, comments, suggestions, etc. I look forward
to working with you and to serving our community. Thank you very much for taking the
time to read this message, I appreciate it.
